A love of the holiday spirit and my Santa Claus collection led me to sculpting.
After following my career around the United States, I returned to the place I call home . . . Wichita KS. Shortly after settling in, there was an announcement about a local sculptor who would be signing her latest Santa ornament. The thought of adding a signed ornament to my collection was exciting . . . and so I met Babs Mellor.
To my delight, I discovered that Babs taught sculpting at City Arts. And so began my love of working with terra-cotta clay.
Always an ‘artsy’ individual who dabbled mostly in watercolor painting and crafting of miniature collectibles, I felt an immediate affinity for the 3-dimensional art of sculpting. Always an admirer of public sculpture, I never imagined that my two hands could express so much.
The joy of children, with their mischievous glint in their eyes, their full cheeks and chubby legs, is a favorite of mine to create in clay. My love of nature and the garden leads me to create botanical images in clay.
