I have been an artist-at-heart as long as I can remember. It is a passion for me and an inner drive that must be fulfilled. Art is many things to many people. It may ignite a memory, it may give hope to a dream or simply provide visual pleasure.
For me, time spent sculpting is time to think... to realize new agendas and rehash the old. Through sculpting, I attempt to capture a moment of human expression. This process reassures me that life is, indeed, good!
Many of my works reveal the character of early American settlers. Those pioneers of the Midwestern states were persons of a strong, enduring nature... people who were able to realize a dream of adventure and at many times, of escape from a life of oppression. Progressing to the frontier offered a "freedom of the heart" while bringing with it distinct burdens for survival.
The inner strength of character possessed by early Americans seems to be the foundation of our great country. Through representational sculpture, I attempt to capture that attitude of tenacious vigor.
